In a historic vote, California State legislators voted 23-11 to adopt AJR1, a resolution calling for a national convention under Article V of the Constitution. California is the second state to call for the national convention after Vermont. The goal of the convention is to call for an end to private financing of elections, and effectively remove profit from politics, and take political power away from corporate lobbyists, unions and other well funded interest groups.
A grassroots effort by the group WolfPAC can be credited for a groundswell of support for AJR1, with a well organized, highly localized network of people motivated to contact their State representatives and push for passage.
